The
Charing Cross Road is a major thoroughfare in
Westminster,
Greater London. It runs nearly
due south from
St Giles' Circus, where
Oxford Street becomes
New Oxford Street at the foot of the
Tottenham Court Road, to
St Martin's Place, which is just north of
Trafalgar Square. The Charing Cross Road is a centre for
second-hand and
antiquarian bookshops (see
84 Charing Cross Road), and also skirts
Chinatown.
Notable sites in the Charing Cross Road include
Cambridge Circus, at the junction with
Shaftesbury Avenue,
Centre Point,
Leicester Square and
Tottenham Court Road Underground stations,
Mr Au's, the
Hippodrome, a branch of
Borders and
the Moon Under Water, London's largest
pub.
