A
novel by Steve Erickson, whose works are considered by some critics to be the heir to the vein of postmodern social examination of
Pynchon and
Delillo, in which several characters lives revolve around an '
Apocalypse Calendar' created by an unnamed man to pinpoint and explain the chaotic events of modern 20th century history.
The characters are all members of prolific, but highly unexplainable events in modern fringe society such as cult faith, fetishist pornography (specifically snuff pornography), and 'memory prostitution'. Each character's story is linked to the following in a coincidental, but deeply effected style.
Erickson has also written Days Between Stations, Rubicon Beach, Tours of the Black Clock, Arc d'X, and Amnesiascope.
