This is a pub in Nottingham England. Its claim to fame is that it is supposedly the oldest pub in the country dating back to 1189 when Richard the Lionheart was King. It is called "Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem" (or "The Trip" for short) because it is where people used to gather before going on the crusades.
The building which stands on its site now is more recent, probably constructed during the Tudor period (1600 ish). It is nevertheless an impressive timber framed building, half set into the rock underneath Nottingham Castle. The back of the pub is caves cut into the sandstone with lots of alcoves for you to have drinks in.
Its claim of being the oldest pub in England is contested by two nearby pubs: The Bell Inn and The Salutation Inn (which are also very nice pubs and well worth a visit).
