extended family. Vitsas are the smallest
social group within
gypsy culture except for the
individual.
If i belong to the Karkov vitsa and my wife is gage, then as soon as we have children, both she, our children and her whole family are a part of the vitsa.
If i am a part of the Karkov vitsa and my wife is a part of the Guilano vitsa, i become a part of the Guilanos and a bond of family is made between the vitsas.
NB:This does not mean our vitsas will not fight or even feud, but it does mean we are obliged to support each other in conflict with outsiders.
