Like the 1900 games in Paris, these games took place at the same time as a
big exhibition, the Louisiana Purchase Exhibition, celebrating the U.S acquisition
of the state.
These games introduced the concept of a medal to the three first in each
event. The also included some interesting events such as mud fighting and
pole climbing. Only some 50 athletes were from outside of U.S and Canada
and this showed in the results lists. Boxing made its debut.
