The Neues Palais is a castle in
Potsdam (
Germany). It is a part of the complex of
Sanssouci, the residence of the
Prussian kings. It was mainly used as a house for the guests of the kings.
The castle was finished in
1769 after only 7 years of building. The original plans for it were made by
Georg Wenzeslaus von Knobelsdorf in
1750.
It is one of the last baroque Prussian castles.
Friedrich der Große (
translation:
Frederick the Great) wanted to show with this castle, that the
Prussian state was not bankrupt after the
Siebenjährige Krieg (
translation: Seven Years' War).
Facing the Neues Palais is the
University of Potsdam.
