Season 1885/86
Season 1885/86 saw Tottenham Hotspur's first competitive game, in the London
Cup. A crowd of around 400 watched them beat St. Albans (not the current St.
Albans but a team from the City of London) though they crashed out 8-0 in
the next round to might Casuals. Spurs were still playing on common ground and
therefore could not charge for the pleasure of watching the team, something
not addressed until 1888.
