One of the more
clever inventions of the
Industrial Age. Faced with the
quandary of where to place the
steering mechanism for a
bicycle,
logic proposed that it be a bent bar, which would feature
handles at either end. Hence, the
handlebar.
Newer trends in bicycle technology have introduced such enhancements as a straight handlebar, long curving handlebars, and an exciting assortment of rubber grips for the handles themselves.
