Contrary to popular belief,
New York's
zealously
moral mayor did not
ban the sale of
sex-related materials - there must have been some
messy question of
constitutionality. The new rules merely state that at least 60% of a store's merchandise must be
wholesome. In response,
Michael Moore opened the
Rudy Giuliani Gift Shop and Sex
Emporium in
Times Square. 60% of the material in the store consisted of
memorabilia related to the
mayor. The rest of the goods were
sex toys, not a few of which also featured Giuliani's
mug. Moore even had a couple of
NYPD cops in the store. He informed them that the store was completely
legal, and offered to
sell them a
plunger.
I have no idea if the store still exists, but I'd love to find out.
