She's cleaning out a closet
several shoeboxes, some empty
others filled with snapshots
dozens of photographs,
many I had never seen
a group of friends at the beach,
mismatched swimsuits with bottles of beer,
all sunburnt, but smiling
a family photo from a ski trip
Christmas lights wrapped around store windows
the background filled with snow and icicles
and my favorite,
she was standing outside in a rainstorm
head leaning back, eyes closed- mouth open
Did you catch any, I asked.
A few she said, half grinning not looking up
probably a few.
