As you can see, some game descriptions need to be filled in more.

The 2013-2014 season saw a realignment of the NHL. Here is a key to help you decipher the new way seeding is done and what the letters mean:

  • W1/W2: Wildcards (1 and 2)
  • C: Central Division (West)
  • P: Pacific Division (West)
  • A: Atlantic Division (East)
  • M: Metropolitan Division (East)

Notable team moves from last year: Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets moved to the East - which now means the East has two more teams than the West. And the Winnipeg Jets moved to the West, where they had really belonged (they had been stuck in the East because they used to be the Atlanta Thrashers).

Round One - Conference Quarterfinals

Western Conference

C1 Colorado Avalanche vs. W1 Minnesota Wild

Well, it seems fitting that the Wild are trying out this new NHL Wild Card spot. No, not because of the name, but because they kinda suck. The Avs sure wanted to make sure that Minnesota was the Av-nots in this series.

GAME ONE: MINNESOTA 4 at COLORADO 5 (OT)- April 17 | Highlights
Paul Stastny scored at 7:27 of overtime to lift the Colorado Avalanche to a 5-4 come-from-behind win against the Wild in Game 1. He also assisted on the first goal of the game (Gabriel Landeskog) and scored the game-tying goal with a mere 14 seconds left in the 3rd. Ryan O'Reilly and Jamie McGinn also scored for the Avs. Mini Soda got tallies from Charlie Coyle, Ryan Suter, Erik Haula, and Kyle Brodziak.

GAME TWO : MINNESOTA 2 at COLORADO 4 - April 19 | Highlights
The Wild scored first in the first with Charlie Coyle. But the Avs won anyway to get the 2-0 series lead with a goal by Nathan MacKinnon and two in the second from Gabriel Landeskog. Paul Stastny added a power-play empty netter with only seconds left. Marco Scandella scored a short-handed tally for Mini Soda.

GAME THREE: COLORADO 0 at MINNESOTA 1 (OT)- April 21 | Highlights
At 5:08 of overtime Minnesota's Mikael Granlund scored the game's only goal, giving the Wild a 1-0 victory. It was his first career playoff goal. Colorado's Semyon Varlamov made 45 saves in the loss. Wild's Darcy Kuemper stopped all 22 shots he faced for the playoff shutout.

GAME FOUR: COLORADO 1 at MINNESOTA 2 - April 24 | Highlights
The Wild even up the series on goals by Jared Spurgeon and Charlie Coyle on the power play. Colorado's Ryan O'Reilly scored as well to make it 2-1.

GAME FIVE: MINNESOTA 3 at COLORADO 4 (OT) - April 26 | Highlights
Nathan MacKinnon scored at 3:27 of OT to win the game for Colorado and complete a 3-point night for himself. Cody McLeod, Nick Holden, and PA Parenteau also scored for his team. Matt Moulson, Zach Parise, and Kyle Brodziak tallied for the Wild.

GAME SIX: COLORADO 2 at MINNESOTA 5 - April 28 | Highlights
The Wild got wild in Game Six. They forced a Game Seven on goals by Zach Parise, Mikael Granlund, Zach Parise again, and not one, but two empty-net goals by Jason Pominville and Marco Scandella. Paul Stastny scored a shorty and Nick Holden scored a power play goal for Colorado.

GAME SEVEN: MINNESOTA 5 at COLORADO 4 (OT)- April 30 | Highlights
Nino Niederreiter scored his second goal of the night at 5:02 of OT to complete the Wild's come-from-behind victory to send his team to Round Two. Mikko Koivu, Dany Heatley, and Jared Spurgeon (with the tying goal) also tallied for the Wild. Nick Holden, Jamie McGinn, Paul Stastny, and Erik Johnson scored for the 'Lanche.

Wild win series 4 games to 3.

C2 St. Louis Blues vs. C3 Chicago Blackhawks

Ah, what a storied rivalry these two teams have. The last time they met in the playoffs was in 2002. The Blues won that series in five. Since then the Blues have only won one playoff series and the 'Hawks have won two Cups. But St. Louis fans think it's finally their turn to kiss the Cup (like they do, um, every year).

GAME ONE: CHICAGO 3 at ST. LOUIS 4 (3OT)- April 17 | Highlights
It took the longest game in Blues history to decide this one, St. Louis going to the 3-oh-tee for the first time ever. But they only spent 29 seconds in that sixth period, as St. Louis' leading goal scorer, Alexander Steen, completed the Blues' late-night comeback. The Blues released the Cracknell for the first goal of the game and the playoffs, but Chicago answered back with tallies by Oduya and Seabrook. Patrick Kane put Chicago up again, and all that before the 1st was over. Jaden Schwartz had tied the game with less than 2 minutes remaining.

GAME TWO: CHICAGO 3 at ST. LOUIS 4 (OT)- April 19 | Highlights
Another 4-3 game, another overtime winner for St. Louis. But this time it only took one extra period, D-man Barret Jackman scoring on a screen between Corey Crawford's pads at 5:50 of the extra frame. Chris Porter and Kevin Shattenkirk had put the Blues up 2-0 by the end of the first but Chicago roared back with goals by Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, and Michal Rozsival to take the lead. But, on the power play and with Ryan Miller pulled, with seven seconds left in the third, Vladimir Taresenko tied the game.

GAME THREE: ST. LOUIS 0 at CHICAGO 2 - April 21 | Highlights
With their backs to the wall the 'Hawks finally pulled out a win, Corey Crawford stopping all 34 Blues shots he faced for the shutout victory. Jonathan Toews scored at 4:10 of the first and Marcus Kruger scored the empty-netter near the end. Blues goalie Ryan Miller stopped 23 of 24 shots he faced.

GAME FOUR: ST. LOUIS 3 at CHICAGO 4 - April 23 | Highlights
Patrick Kane scored his second goal of the night at 11:17 of OT to win the game and even up the series for the 'Hawks. Chicago had opened up the scoring in the second, going up 2-0 on tallies by Andrew Shaw and Kane. But shortly after St. Louis' Vladimir Tarasenko and Maxim Lapierre tied the game. Tarasenko scored again in the third to make it 3-2 but with about four minutes left Bryan Bickell knotted things up.

GAME FIVE: CHICAGO 3 at ST. LOUIS 2 (OT)- April 25 | Highlights
Jonathan Toews scored 7:36 into overtime to win the game for Chicago and take the series lead. The 'Hawks also scored first in the first with Marian Hossa. T.J. Oshie tied it in the second, followed by Ben Smith's tally to put Chicago up 2-1. Alex Pietrangelo tied it for the Blues early in the third.

GAME SIX: ST. LOUIS 1 at CHICAGO 5 - April 27 | Highlights
Duncan Keith scored a goal and three assists and goalie Chris Crawford made 35 saves to help propel Chicago into Round Two. Bryan Bickell, Jonathan Toews, Patrick Sharp, and Andrew Shaw also tallied for the 'Hawks. T.J. Oshie scored for the Blues.

Blackhawks win series 4 games to 2.

P1 Anaheim Ducks vs. W2 Dallas Stars

The Anaheim Ducks were rearin' to go against the Dall ohGodWhoFrigginCares?

GAME ONE: DALLAS 3 at ANAHEIM 4 - April 16 | Highlights
Anaheim stoked a 4-0 lead with Palmieri, Getzlaf, Perrault and Beleskey by mid-second period. But Dallas almost came back with tallies by Benn, Sceviour, and Seguin and dammit who gives a Duck? Oh and Getzlaf got hit in the face with a slap-shot puck. Yeah, that probably hurt.

GAME TWO: DALLAS 2 at ANAHEIM 3 - April 18 | Highlights
Dallas' Alex Chiasson scored first in the first on the power play but Ryan Getzlaf, Corey Perry, and Andrew Cogliano shorthanded won the game for Anaheim. Ryan Garbutt also scored for Dallas.

GAME THREE: ANAHEIM 0 at DALLAS 3 - April 21 | Highlights
Dallas' Kari Lehtonen stopped all 37 shots he faced for his first career playoff victory and shutout. Jamie Benn, Valeri Nichushkin, and Ryan Garbutt scored for Dallas.

GAME FOUR: ANAHEIM 2 at DALLAS 4 - April 23 | Highlights
The Ducks went up 2-0 in the first on goals by Bryan Allen and Patrick Maroon. But the Ducks were seeing all stars the rest of the game, as Jamie Benn, Vernon Fiddler, Cody Eakin, and Alex Goligoski scored for Dallas.

GAME FIVE: DALLAS 2 at ANAHEIM 6 - April 25 | Highlights
The Ducks spanked the Stars on goals by Nick Bonino, Rickard Rakell, Mathieu Perrault, Jakob Silfverberg, Ryan Getzlaf, and Corey Perry. Jamie Benn with a shorty and Shawn Horcoff tallied for Dallas.

GAME SIX: ANAHEIM 5 at DALLAS 4 (OT)- April 27 | Highlights
The Stars put out quite an effort early on with a 3-1 lead after the first on goals by Trevor Daley, Cody Eakin, and Ryan Garbutt with Devante Smith-Pelly getting one for the Ducks in that period. But the Duck's Ben Lovejoy (really?) and Nick Bonino and Devante Smith-Pelly again, along with another tally by Trevor Daley made the score 4-4 at the end of regulation. But Nick Bonino sent the Stars packing in front of their stunned home crowd with his second goal of the game at 2:47 of overtime.

Ducks win series 4 games to 2.

P2 San Jose Sharks vs. P3 Los Angeles Kings

So this series saw two of the best NHL teams facing off. Both were heavy on offense and light on defense so this one looked to be a slugfest. Would Quick be quick? Would Boyle boil?

GAME ONE: LOS ANGELES 3 at SAN JOSE 6 - April 17 | Highlights
The Sharks opened up a can of whoopass on the Kings in Game One. Joe Thornton, Tomas Hertl, Patrick Marleau, Raffi Torres, and Marc-Edouard Vlassic got the Kings in a pickle as San Jose went up 5-0 by the 3rd period. Then Jake Muzzin, Slava Voynov, and Tevor Lewis sang "We three Kings, we can score, too!" But so could Brent Burns, with an empty-netter.

GAME TWO: LOS ANGELES 2 at SAN JOSE 7 - April 20 | Highlights
Another game, another ass-whooping by San Jose. LA did go up 2-0 in the first on goals by Jake Muzzin and Trevor Lewis. But then it was all Sharks in the second and third, the glutton of goals by Mike Brown, Raffi Torres, Justin Braun, Patrick Marleau, Joe Pavelski, Logon Couture, and Joe Thornton.

GAME THREE: SAN JOSE 4 at LOS ANGELES 3 - April 22 | Highlights
Patrick Marleau's goal at 6:20 of overtime gave San Jose the 4-3 victory and commanding 3-0 series lead. Brent Burns, Matt Nieto, and Tomas Hertl also scored for the Sharks. Jarret Stoll, Marian Gaborik, and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings.

GAME FOUR: SAN JOSE 3 at LOS ANGELES 6 - April 24 | Highlights
Wow! LA won a game! They stayed alive with a spanking of their own, getting goals by Marian Gaborik (twice), Justin Williams (twice), Tyler Toffoli, and Dustin Brown on the empty-net. San Jose got tallies from James Sheppard, Matt Nieto, and Joe Pavelski.

GAME FIVE: LOS ANGELES 3 at SAN JOSE 0 - April 26 | Highlights
Aaand LA won again, with Quick making 30 saves for the shutout, and tallies by Tyler Troffoli, Anze Kopitar, and Jeff Carter (power play).

GAME SIX: SAN JOSE 1 at LOS ANGELES 4 - April 28 | Highlights
Aaaaaannnnd LA won yet again to force Game Seven. Justin Williams and Anze Kopitar each scored two goals in the win for the Kings. San Jose managed a goal by James Sheppard.

GAME SEVEN: LOS ANGELES 5 at SAN JOSE 1 - April 30 | Highlights
And, wouldn't you know it? LA won yet again, doing something they seem to have a knack for doing in recent years, coming back from an 0-3 series deficit to win it. The Sharks put on an epic choke in front of their home fans, allowing Kings goals by Drew Doughty, Anze Kopitar, Tyler Toffoli, Dustin Brown, and Tanner Pearson - the last two empty-netters. San Jose, however, did score first with Matt Irwin. They'll be whining about that one on the golf course this summer.

Kings win series 4 games to 3.

Eastern Conference

A1 Boston Bruins vs. W2 Detroit Red Wings

So last year the Wings were all like "Waaahhh, we're so butthurt about flying to California all the time wahhhh!" so the League darlings got their wish and moved to the East (along with the BJs, who also suck). So here we have Detroit and Boston facing off in Round One of the playoffs. Oh, goodie. I was really hoping for a bloody, brutal bear attack.

GAME ONE: DETROIT 1 at BOSTON 0 - April 18 | Highlights
Detroit's Jimmy Howard stopped all twenty-five shots he faced. And Pavel Datsyuk scored to make it a win for the Wings.

GAME TWO: DETROIT 1 at BOSTON 4 - April 20 | Highlights
The East's best offense finally kicked into gear, Boston's Justin Florek, Reilly Smith, Milan Lucic, and Zdeno Chara scoring for the Bruins to even the series. Luke Glendening scored for Detroit.

GAME THREE: BOSTON 3 at DETROIT 0- April 22 | Highlights
Boston's Tuukka Rask stopped all 23 Detroit shots he faced and Dougie Hamilton, Jordan Caron, and Patrice Bergeron on the empty-net scored for the Bruins.

GAME FOUR: BOSTON 3 at DETROIT 2 - April 24 | Highlights
Jarome Iginla scored on a deflected shot 13:32 into the extra period to give Boston a 3-2 win and 3-1 series lead. Torey Knug and Milan Lucic also scored for the Bruins, tying the game up after Detroit had gone up 2-0 on tallies by Niklas Kronwall and Pavel Datsyuk.

GAME FIVE: DETROIT 2 at BOSTON 4 - April 26 | Highlights
Boston advanced to Round Two and sent Detroit packing with goals from Loui Erikkson, Zdeno Chara, Milan Lucic, and an empty-netter by Jarome Iginla. Detroit's two goals came from Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg.

Bruins win series 4 games to 1.

A2 Tampa Bay Lightning vs. A3 Montreal Canadiens

The last time these two teams met in the playoffs was in 2004 where the Lightning won their Cup. The next ten years saw Tampa Bay kind of suck again until here they are in the playoffs with home-ice advantage in 2014. The two teams were closely matched so the series victor looked to be a toss-up.

GAME ONE: MONTREAL 5 at TAMPA BAY 4 (OT)- April 16 | Highlights
As expected the game was tit-for-tat. Tampa's Nikita Kucherov scored, Montreal's Tomas Plekanec scored, then Tampa with Steven Stamkos, Montreal with Brian Gionta (shorthanded). The Habs took the lead with Lars Eller but it was tied again with a tally by Alex Killorn, with Thomas Vanek and Stamkos again knotting things up in the third. But it was Montreal's Dale Weise at 18:08 of OT that ended the goal contest for the 1-0 series lead.

GAME TWO: MONTREAL 4 at TAMPA BAY 1 - April 18 | Highlights
They say that lightning doesn't strike twice in the same spot. But sometimes it doesn't even strike once. Tampa lost their first two games at home after a 4-1 spanking at the hands of the Habs. By 15 minutes through the third Montreal found themselves up 4-0 on goals by David Desharnais, Rene Borque, Brendan Gallagher, and Borque again. The Lightning finally got on the board with a few minutes left with Teddy Purcell on the power play.

GAME THREE: TAMPA BAY 2 at MONTREAL 3 - April 20 | Highlights
The Lightning are put on the brink as Montreal beat them again. Rene Borque, Brendan Gallagher, and Tomas Plekanec helped them take the commanding series lead. Ondrej Palat and Matthew Carle tallied for Tampa.

GAME FOUR: TAMPA BAY 3 at MONTREAL 4 - April 22 | Highlights
Max Pacioretty drove that final coffin nail in with 42.6 seconds remaining in the third to negate a Lightning comeback and propel his Canadiens to Round Two. Time for lightning to strike at the golf course. Daniel Briere, Lars Eller, and Brendan Gallagher also scored for Montreal. Ondrej Palat scored a shorty for the Lightning in the second and Victor Hedman and Tyler Johnson in the third tied the game, but it was still not meant to be.

Canadiens win series 4 games to 0.

M1 Pittsburgh Penguins vs. W1 Columbus Blue Jackets

So the Penguins were probably thinking "Hey, sometimes it's good to get BJs." For the first time ever these two teams met in the playoffs, after Columbus' move to the East. Pittsburgh had the clear advantage in the season series, trailing a mere 56 seconds of the whole 300 minutes the two teams had played each other. They looked to continue that dominance in the "second season."

GAME ONE: COLUMBUS 3 at PITTSBURGH 4 - April 16 | Highlights
Columbus actually struck first and did not make Pittsburgh's Game One victory easy. Jack Johnson (not the singer) at 6:20 of the 1st started the series scoring. But Jussi Jokinen (assisted by Evgeni Malkin) answered back, but later still in the 1st Mark Letestu gave the BJs the lead again. Derek MacKenzie put them up by 2 on the second on a shorthanded tally. But the Penguins tied it up then won the game on goals by Beau Bennett (shortly after MacKenzie's tally on that same power play), Matt Niskanen (another power play goal assisted by Malkin and Sidney Crosby), and Brandon Sutter.

GAME TWO: COLUMBUS 4 at PITTSBURGH 3 (2OT) - April 19 | Highlights
Matt Calvert scored his second goal of the game 1:10 into double overtime to give the BJs their first Stanley Cup Playoff victory and even up the series. Brian Gibbons scored twice and Matt Niskanen scored once for Pittsburgh in the first. Ryan Johansen and Jack Johnson also tallied for Columbus.

GAME THREE: PITTSBURGH 4 at COLUMBUS 3 - April 21 | Highlights
The Penguins rallied past the Blue Jackets in Columbus to take the series lead. At the start of the third the BJs were up 3-1 on goals by Boone Jenner, Jack Johnson, and Cam Atkinson (with Pittsburgh's Brooks Orpik scoring in the second). But Brandon Sutter, Lee Stempniak, and Jussi Jokinen took control for the Penguins in the third.

GAME FOUR: PITTSBURGH 3 at COLUMBUS 4 (OT)- April 23 | Highlights
The BJs pleased their home fans with a come-from-behind win, Nick Foligno scoring just 2:49 into overtime. At first it was the pitts for them, going down 3-0 on goals by Craig Adams (shorthanded), Chris Kunitz (power play) and James Neal, all in the first. But Columbus got two power play tallies by Boone Jenner and Ryan Johansen, and Brandon Dubinsky, with 24 seconds left, tied the game.

GAME FIVE: COLUMBUS 1 at PITTSBURGH 3 - April 26 | Highlights
Pittsburgh regained the series lead with a 3-1 win, getting goals by Chris Kunitz, Jussi Jokinen, and Kris Letang on the empty net. Marc-Andre Fleury made 23 saves for his win. Boone Jenner scored first in the first for Columbus on the power play.

GAME SIX: PITTSBURGH 4 at COLUMBUS 3 - April 28 | Highlights
Evgeni Malkin picked a good time to wake back up, scoring no less than three goals to help send the Blue Jackets to the golf course. Brandon Sutter also tallied for the Penguins. That was a 4-0 lead they had to hold on tight to, because the BJs didn't just blow away, scoring three in the third, with a shorty by Fedor Tyutin, a power play goal by Artem Anisimov, and a tally by Nick Foligno. But that was just a cruel cock tease for their home fans as they failed to tie the game anyway.

Penguins win series 4 games to 2.

M2 New York Rangers vs. M3 Philadelphia Flyers

The key to this series would be who was better on the road. The home team won all the games in the season series between the Flyboys and the Blueshirts. Would New York be the victor, since they won more road games than any other team in the East?

GAME ONE: PHILADELPHIA 1 at NEW YORK RANGERS 4 - April 17 | Highlights
The Rangers took Game One on home ice with goals by Mats Succarello, Brad Richards, Derek Stepan, and Carl Hagelin, the latter 3 scored in the 3rd. Philly actually opened up the series scoring on a goal by d-man Andrew MacDonald in the 1st.

GAME TWO: PHILADELPHIA 4 at NEW YORK RANGERS 2 - April 20 | Highlights
The Rangers went up 2-zip in the first on goals by Martin St. Louis and Benoit Pouliot on the man-advantage. But Jakub Voracek, Jason Akeson, Luke Schenn, and Wayne Simmonds on the empty-netter knotted up the series for the Flyers.

GAME THREE: NEW YORK RANGERS 4 at PHILADELPHIA 1 - April 22 | Highlights
The Rangers bangered past silly Philly in this tilt to take the series lead. Derek Stepan, Martin St. Louis, Dan Giradi, and Daniel Carcillo scored for New York while the Flyers only got one tally by Mark Streit.

Rangers win series 4 games to 2

Round Four - Stanley Cup Finals

P3 Los Angeles Kings vs. M2 New York Rangers

This Cup Finals is the wet dream of Gary Bettman and the networks: a match-up of the two biggest markets, east vs. west, New York vs. Los Angeles. (The 2014 NBA, who didn't have either market even in their playoffs, must have been envious.) The Rangers hadn't been to the Cup Finals since 1994 and the Kings were there once again after an unlikely run. Marián Gáborík vs. Martin St. Louis. Henrik Lundqvist vs. Jonathan Quick. Let's go!

GAME ONE: NEW YORK RANGERS 2 at LOS ANGELES 3 - June 4 | Highlights
The Great One, Wayne Gretzky Himself, a former King, dropped the ceremonial first puck for Game One. It must have given LA some luck. At 4:36 of overtime Justin Williams scored on a snap shot to give the Kings a 3-2 win and 1-0 series lead in the Finals. Kyle Clifford and Drew Doughty also scored for LA, those two goals erasing a 2-0 Rangers lead built by Benoit Pouliot and Carl Hagelin (shorthanded).

GAME TWO: NEW YORK RANGERS 4 at LOS ANGELES 5 (2OT) - June 7 | Highlights
Dustin Brown at 10:26 of the second overtime gave his Kings team a 5-4 win and 2-0 series lead. Down 4-2 at the start of the third, LA goals by Dwight King and Marian Gaborik rallied to tie the game. Jerret Stoll and Willie Mitchell also scored for LA. The Rangers scored with Ryan McDonagh, Mats Zuccarello, Martin St. Louis, and Derick Brassard.
