Wortmannin in an antifungal antibiotic
that can be isolated and purified from
the culture broth of the fungi Penicillium Wortmanii
and Penicillium Fumiculosum.
It has no antibacterial
properties, but is specifically active
against fungi.
In mammals (humans included), wortmannin
displays anti-inflammatory and anti-fungal
activity, but also acuty toxicity, so it
currently has no therapeutic purposes.
In rats, it is toxic at 7 mg/kg body weight.
