AIDS defining conditions

Any of these conditions would meet the criteria for an AIDS diagnosis.

These are things found in Category C of the 1993 CDC classification for AIDS. Category A is asymptomatic, Category B is HIV-related conditions, which are not category A or C (which is sorta confusing).

  • disseminated
• Cervical carcinoma, invasive
• Coccidioidomycosis, disseminated or extrapulmonary
• Cryptococcosis (Cryptococcus neoformans), extrapulmonary
• Cryptosporidiosis (Cryptosporidium parvum), chronic intestinal
• Cytomegalovirus (CMV), other than liver, spleen or lymph nodes.
• CMV retinitis
• Herpes simplex, chronic ulcers (one month) or bronchitis, pneumonitis or oesophagitis
• Histoplasmosis, disseminated or extrapulmonary
• HIV encephalopathy
• HIV wasting syndrome
• Isosporiasis, chronic intestinal
• Kaposi's sarcoma
• Lymphoma
  • Burkitt's lymphoma
  • immunoblastic
  • of the brain
• Mycobacterium tuberculosis, any site.
• Atypical Mycobacteria, disseminated or extrapulmonary.
• Pneumocystis Carinii pneumonia
• Pneumonia, recurrent
• Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy
• Salmonella septicaemia, recurrent
• Toxoplasmosis (Toxoplasma gondii) of brain
