Grey Council

In the Babylon 5 universe, the governing body of the Minbari Federation. The first Grey Council was established by Valen after the war against the Shadows. Composed of nine members, three from each of the three Minbari castes. Each member bears the title Satai.

Delenn was a member of the Grey Council from 2242 unil she was removed in 2259 and replaced by Neroon. She subsequently dissolved the Council in 2260. She was offered the position of Council leader in 2258, but turned it down.

Induction into the Grey Council is a very ritualistic process. The Minbari take great pride in performing religous ceremonies to the utmost of their abilites. Of particular importance are the words spoken at the ceremony...

"Why do you come here, Delenn?"

"I come to serve."

"Who do you serve?"

"I serve the truth."

"What is the truth?"

"That we are one people, one voice."

"Will you follow me into fire? Will you follow me into darkness? Will you follow me into death?"

"I will."

"Then follow."

"I am become Grey. I stand between the darkness and the light, between the candle and the star."
