Mike Okuda is the technical director of the later
Star Trek series and films. He started work on
Star Trek by inventing cheaper ways to create the backlit displays used in the
Star Trek films. He later co-wrote such excellent
books as the
Star Trek Encyclopedia (now in several editions with a
CD-ROM version which I am proud to own) the
Star Trek Chronology, the
Star Trek: The Next Generation Technical Manual (which has also been made into CD format: first as the
Interactive Technical Manual, and later as the renowned
Captain's Chair), and other books.
He is married to Denise Okuda, the video director (in charge of feeding the signals to the video displays used in DS9 and Voyager), and who co-wrote some of the aforementioned books with him.
