A crorepati is the Indian equivalent of a millionaire. The word derives from the Hindi words crore, meaning "10 million" and pati, meaning "owner" or "lord." Thus, a "crorepati" would be someone with a net worth in excess of 10 million rupees (or other currency).
The Indian version of the television show "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" is called Kaun Banega Crorepati, or "who wants to be a crorepati?"
Today one crore rupees is worth about $200,000, which is actually quite a lot of money in India, worth even more than 1 million US dollars in terms of actual purchasing power.
