Wearing socks and sandals together is a fashion faux pas, and like many such things, has received more connotations than its denotations, over the years? What type of man wears socks and sandals together? This simple act, putting footwear over foot coverings, has received its own mythology, and like any mythology, it has shifting meanings. I think that much like the wearer of the manbun, the socks and sandals guy is trying too hard to be a "natural" guy, the openness and casualness of sandals being ruined by the presence of socks. But when we look at all the implicit beliefs and imagery into why socks and sandals are so bad, we can go a long way down.

But here is a real story: right now, I am staying in a Tiny House, located 30 feet away from my mother's house. It is a pretty pleasant, cozy little place to be. And while out here, I sometime wear socks because it can get a little chilly here in Montana. But then sometimes I need to go into the main house, a full 30 feet away. Might need to get a cup of water (no plumbing here right now), or take a bath, or get some food. That doesn't really warrant putting shoes on, but I don't want to get my socks wet in the grass. So I put sandals over my socks to walk to the house. This might be my particular situation, but I am sure there are lots of people who throw on sandals over socks to make it to the mailbox or take their dog out to pee.

Anyway, so like so many things, we have something constructed on the internet as a semi-ironic big deal, that is just a normal part of life for many situations we might find ourselves in.
