stereotypically beautiful (idea)

A stereotypically beautiful person is one whose appearance closely conforms to the ideal of physical attractiveness for a given culture. For American culture at this time, the stereotype for women seems to be:

• Moderately tall.
• Long, straight, blond or light brown hair. No body hair except on the arms and pubic region.
• Blue or green eyes.
• Skin which is either pale brown or moderately darkly tanned, and has no acne, scars or freckles.
• A thin body with well defined hips slightly larger than the waist, and a bust somewhat larger than the hips. (Another ideal, seen in the fashion industry, is the skinny, boyish, no chest look. (This ideal also existed in the 1920’s.))
• Facial features of average size and location.

For men, it seems to be:

• Slightly taller than women.
• Same color hair, except worn short. No hair on the back and little or none on the chest.
• Same color eyes.
• Same type of skin.
• Body with a rather narrow waist and hips and broad shoulders, leading to the coveted "V-Shaped Torso", and well defined but not excessive musculature.
• Same "average" face.

Few people actually conform to the standard, yet it is upheld by the media. Good places to find examples are fashion magazines (both of the Men’s and Women’s variety), and MTV.

Personally, I tend to find this type of appearance bland.
