An absolutely wonderful
novel by
Kenneth Grahame. It tells the story of
Mole,
Rat,
Badger, and pompous Mr.
Toad as they explore The
River. Previous to analyzation, it seems just like an extraordinarily well-written novel about
friendship. When you get into it, however, it's a sarcastic parody of
British society, with each of the friends representing a different
class of person.
Published in 1908, it was Grahame's only novel and originated as a series of bedtime stories told to his son, Alastair.
