Alnmouth is a village of approximately 600 people, located at the mouth of the river Aln in the county of Northumberland about four miles southeast of the town of Alnwick.
It was founded as a medieval borough in 1150 and became established as a port and shipbuilding centre between the years of 1207 and 1208, mainly exporting grain from the Tyne valley. This lasted until Christmas Eve 1806 when a storm changed the course of the river Aln a little to the north and reduced it attractions as a commercial port.
It became a popular tourist resort during the reign of Queen Victoria and is now described as a picturesque coastal village. The Alnmouth Golf Club, formed in 1869, has the second oldest golf course in England.
