EMD denotes
Electro-mechanical dissociation, and is a life-threatening cardiac condition in which the
myocardium fails to act despite the presence of an apparently normal
electrocardiograph.
It may denote the absence of sufficient viable myocardium, or can be caused by severe hypovolaemia, drug toxicity, electrolyte imbalance or mechanical obstruction.
