This has two meanings:
(a) The act of leaving ones place of residence (often in the evening) in order to do something less boring than staying at home, for example go out for a meal or the cinema or even (ten pin) Bowling.
(b) The link existing between the two members of a couple (usually boyfriend and girlfriend), usually leading to them partaking of (a) together on a reasonably frequent basis.
