Interesting to see that the description of the same technology changes over time.
Changing the DNA of a organism (not including plant and animal breeding):
- the eighties: genetic manipulation
- around '90: genetic modification
- mid nineties: genetic engineering
- nowadays: altering or adjusting the genetic makeup of a living organism

Does this say something about our acceptance of this technology? Or is it yet another publicity term used by Monsanto, Gentech cs. to make it sound harmless? Or maybe because of the name changes it's easier for the people to accept this doubtful technology?! Adjusting a gene or gene expression "for your own health" (...) defenitely seems nicer than manipulating DNA so that the organism does what a human want/orders it to do.
